Russet is a dark red onion variety with very high yield potential and suitable for fresh market. Plants have a uniform fall over of leaves at maturity. Bulbs are globular, uniform and firm. Yield is comparable to those of hybrid varieties which are commercially cultivated locally. The variety adapts well to all onion growing regions with the exception of the coastal areas having a sandy soil.
