FAREI Participation in National Science Week 2026







The Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre (RGSC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Research, organised the tenth edition of National Science Week 2026 from 1 to 5 June 2026 at the Cote D’Or National Sports Complex under the theme “Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM): Exploring, Innovating and Inspiring.”
The event was launched by the Ministry of Dr Hon Kaviraj Sharma Sukon Minister of Tertiary Education, Science, and Research of Mauritius.
The National Science Week 2026 is designed to:
- Inspire young people toward careers in STEM fields
- Promote public understanding of scientific issues and their relevance to everyday life
- Strengthen collaboration between research institutions, the education sector and industry
The FAREI participated in this event and showcased its research, technologies and outreach programs through interactive exhibits, posters, and publications under the following themes:
- Tissue culture techniques: Demonstrating micropropagation of banana, anthurium, and potato seeds to improve crop resilience and productivity.
- Pest and disease management: Showcasing beneficial insects and inoculants as eco-friendly alternatives to chemical pesticides.
- Aquaponics systems: Highlighting integrated fish and plant farming for sustainable food production.
- Waste recycling and composting: Turning agricultural waste into valuable compost to reduce environmental impact.
- Agri-business opportunities: Promoting cassava, sweet potato, and breadfruit flour as innovative products for local and export markets
