Success Story of Mr Danny Chan Hong Long - Zardin La Laura Ltd

Mr Danny Chan Hong Long, one of the owners of Zardin La Laura Ltd located in La Laura, St Pierre, started his business enterprise in year 2021 with 3 hydroponics system. Since its establishment, Zardin La Laura Ltd has demonstrated remarkable growth and innovation in the agricultural sector. The company focuses on innovative and sustainable farming methods, including protected farming, hydroponics, precision agriculture, and smart technology. Over these past years, the company has expanded its operations to cultivate more than 25 crop varieties including salad and cherry tomatoes, English cucumber, sweet pepper, eggplant, lettuce, greens and spices over an area of 5300 m2. On a monthly basis more than 3500 kg of fresh vegetables are produced and packaged through innovative techniques to preserve freshness and increase shelf life of produce.

The remarkable success story of Zardin La Laura Ltd would be incomplete without acknowledging the pivotal role played by the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (FAREI). The venture has benefitted from multiple training programmes namely: Hydroponic production, MauriGap and organic production as well as schemes on CCTV camera, purchase of equipments, planting materials. In parallel the enterprise is benefitting from the technical expertise of the Farei’s Crop Research Department to expand its activities.

On Thursday 11.06.2026, the Minister of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries, Dr the Hon Arvin Boolell, GOSK, and the Junior Minister, Mr Fabrice David made a site visit at Zardin La Laura Ltd. The aim of the visit was to take cognisance and witness the innovative techniques used by this family business in a bid to promote smart agriculture. In his statement, the minister praised the company’s transformation into a technology-driven enterprise and encouraged young people to adopt sustainable, smart farming techniques and develop their agribusinesses.
