The Ministry of Agro Industry and Food Security intends to launch the household gardening scheme 2023 – 2024 for the production of vegetables in the back yard using an aquaponic system. Potential suppliers of aquaponic units, as per below specifications, are invited to register with the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (FAREI) by 12 January 2024.

1. The capacity shall be suitable for a backyard system amounting not more than Rs 50 000.
2. The system shall comprise of:
   i. Fish tank of minimum capacity 1m3 including tilapia fingerlings (about 3-5cm in length),
   ii. Biological filter,
   iii. Media bed of growing area of minimum 5m2 inclusive of growing media and a syphon system,
   iv. Submersible water pump and an air pump and
   v. Sump tank.The aquaponic should be a recirculating system and the Fish tank and growing bed shall be mounted on galvanized stand.
3. The system shall be a single phase 220-240 Volts, 50Hz
4. The selected supplier shall deliver, install, test and commission 200 units aquaponic units at the beneficiaries’ place before end of May 2024.
