Notification of Internal Vacancies
(i) LIVESTOCK ATTENDANT (ROSTER) FORMERLY STOCKMAN (ROSTER) (ANNEX I)
(ii) FIELD SUPERVISOR (ANNEX II).
Applications are invited from qualified serving employees of the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (FAREI) who wish to be considered for appointment in the following posts:
(i) LIVESTOCK ATTENDANT (ROSTER) FORMERLY STOCKMAN (ROSTER) (ANNEX I)
(ii) FIELD SUPERVISOR (ANNEX II).
I. MODE OF APPLICATION
Qualified candidates are kindly requested to call during working hours at the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute, Head Office, Reduit to collect the application form or to download the application form from the website of FAREI (farei.mu).
Instructions to candidates:
- Only application made on the prescribed form will be accepted.
- Incomplete, inadequate or inaccurate filling of the form will lead to disqualification and elimination of the candidate.
- Applicant should possess all certificates/qualifications at time of application.
- Copy of certificates and Identity Card must be attached to the application form.
- Documentary evidence will have to be submitted for experience claimed & should be attached at the time of application.
- The onus for the submission of equivalence of qualification (if applicable) from the relevant authorities (Tertiary Education Commission or Mauritius Qualifications Authority) rests on the candidates. Applications will not be considered failing the non-submission of Equivalence Certificate, as appropriate, by the closing date.
- The post applied for should be clearly marked on the top left-hand corner of the envelope.
- Application received after closing date will not be accepted.
Note: FAREI reserves the right
(i) to convene only the best qualified candidates for interview.
(ii) not to fill any vacancy.
II. CLOSING DATE
The duly completed application form should reach the Chief Executive Officer, FAREI, Head Office, Reduit, not later than 3.00 p.m. on 12 October 2026.
The Officers in Charge are requested to bring the contents of this circular to the notice of eligible employees (including those on leave).

ANNEX I
POST OF LIVESTOCK ATTENDANT (ROSTER) FORMERLY STOCKMAN (ROSTER) – INTERNAL VACANCY
I. QUALIFICATIONS
By selection from among General Workers who reckon at least five years’ service on the permanent and pensionable establishment of the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (FAREI) and who:
(i) possess the Certificate of Primary Education;
(ii) have a natural tenderness for livestock animals and birds; and
(iii) are robust and not allergic to animal smell and dust.
NOTE
Candidates not possessing the Certificate of Primary Education will also be considered provided they show proof of being literate.
II SALARY:
The permanent and pensionable post carries salary in scale:
Rs 23645 x 300 – 26945 x 320 – 28865 x 350 – 30965 x 400 – 31765 x 425 – 33040 x 560 – 34720 (FAREI 6).
III LIST OF DUTIES:
1. To be responsible for the following duties:
(i) proper handling, feeding, cleaning and caring of a group of animals and poultry assigned to him;
(ii) cleaning of pens, feeds, drinkers, flooring, drains and removal of manure from livestock and poultry houses;
(iii) perform common farm operations such as milking of animals, weighing, castration, dehorning, hoof trimming, fostering, egg collection, sexing, debeaking, deworming, drenching, vaccination and minor health treatment;
(iv) loading, unloading and handling of feeds, feedstuffs and other materials for livestock and poultry, including harvesting and conserving fodder;
(v) handling and serving feedstuff;
(vi) upkeep and disinfection of building and farm premises where animals or
poultry are kept;
(vii) restrain animals for examination, weighing, treatment and other operations;
(viii) performing common methods of animal or bird identification such as tattooing, tagging, notching, ring band, branding, microchips;
(ix) performing semen collection, processing and insemination on female animal or poultry;
(x) keeping simple records;
(xi) proper handling, slaughtering and processing of animals or poultry; and
(xii) assisting in post mortem operations.
2. To be responsible to the officer in charge for the efficiency of any General Worker working with him.
3. To perform such other duties directly related to the main duties listed above or related to the delivery of the output and results expected from the Livestock Attendant (Roster), formerly Stockman (Roster) in the roles ascribed to him.
Note
Livestock Attendant (Roster), formerly Stockman (Roster) will be required to work on a roster basis on Sundays and Public Holidays, and on officially declared cyclone days, according to a plan specifying the commencing times and finishing times of turns on duty which may include night duty.
ANNEX II
POST OF FIELD SUPERVISOR – INTERNAL VACANCY
I QUALIFICATIONS:
By selection from among employees on the permanent and pensionable establishment of the Food Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (FAREI) who:
(i) possess a Certificate in Primary Education;
(ii) reckon at least five years’ satisfactory service in their respective grades;
(iii) have the ability to supervise workers and maintain discipline among them; and
(iv) have practical knowledge of field work relevant to agriculture and are able to recognise common vegetables, fruit crops, ornamentals and weeds.
NOTE 1
Candidates not possessing the qualification at (i) above will also be considered provided they show proof of being literate.
II SALARY
The permanent and pensionable post carries salary in scale:
Rs 25745 x 300 – 26945 x 320 – 28865 x 350 – 30965 x 400 – 31765 x 425 – 33040 x 560 – 35840 x 725 – 37290 (FAREI 10)
III LIST OF DUTIES
- To distribute work among the workers under his supervision and maintain discipline among them.
- To ensure that the work is properly performed and is of reasonable quantity.
- To make simple measurements and keep simple records of the work done.
- To receive and control plants and materials delivered on site of work.
- To record attendance of labourers/workers in the books.
- To keep an inventory of the tools and materials issued to workers under his supervision and to arrange for the safekeeping of the unused materials on sites of work.
- To transmit applications for leave received from the workers under his supervision.
- To report to his superior officer any misconduct or insubordination and any grievances of the workers under his supervision.
- To ensure that all employees under his supervision use their personal protective clothing and equipment.
- To ensure that tools and equipment issued to workers are properly used, kept and simple maintenance carried out.
- To perform such other duties directly related to the main duties listed above or related to the delivery of the output and results expected from Field Supervisor in the roles ascribed to him.
