Applications are invited from qualified candidates who wish to be considered for appointment at the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (FAREI) for the post of ICT Technician.
Appointment to the post will be initially on a temporary basis for a period of one year. Subject to satisfactory service, candidates may be offered substantive appointment.

Candidates who submitted an application for the post of ICT Technician, advertised on 05 November 2022, need not resubmit a fresh application.

I. AGE LIMIT
Candidates unless already employed in the public service or in parastatal organisations should not have reached their 45th birthday by the closing date for the submission of applications.

II. QUALIFICATIONS
A. Diploma in Information Technology or Computer Science or Information Systems or ICT or any related field from a recognised institution
Or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the Board
B. At least 2 years’ post-qualification experience in the field of IT

III. SALARY
The temporary appointment will carry flat salary at the rate of Rs 21,850 a month. The permanent and pensionable post carries salary in scale:
Rs 21,850 x 375 –22,225 x 400 – 23,425 x 525 – 26,050 x 675 – 27,400 x 825 – 35,650 x 900 – 37,450 x 950 – 42,200 x 1,300 – 46,100 x 1,575 – 47,675 (FAREI 28).

IV. LIST OF DUTIES

1. To be responsible to the IT Officer/Systems Administrator for –
(i) maintaining, repairing and administering the ICT equipment including all related peripherals;
(ii) providing general technical guidance and support to end-users;
(iii) assisting to devise appropriate systems of security in relation to hardware and software;
(iv) advising on the purchase of spare parts for ICT equipment;
(v) maintaining and repairing all electrical/electronic teaching aids;
(vi) liaising with suppliers for repairs and/or maintenance of ICT equipment; and
(vii) troubleshooting network problems.
2. To perform such other duties directly related to the main duties listed above or related to the delivery of the output and results expected from ICT Technicians in the roles ascribed to them.
Note: ICT Technicians should be prepared to work outside normal working hours.

Instructions to candidates are:
1. Only application made on the prescribed form will be accepted.
2. Incomplete, inadequate or inaccurate filling of the form will lead to disqualification and elimination of the candidate.
3. Applicant should possess all certificates/qualifications at time of application.
4. Copy of certificates and Identity Card must be attached to the application form.
5. Documentary evidence will have to be submitted for experience claimed & should be attached at the time of application.
6. The onus for the submission of equivalence of qualification (if applicable) from the relevant authorities (Tertiary Education Commission or Mauritius Qualifications Authority) rests on the candidates. Applications will not be considered failing the non-submission of Equivalence Certificate, as appropriate, by the closing date.
