Post of Safety and Health Officer/Senior Safety and Health Officer (Contract)
Applications are invited from qualified candidates who wish to be considered for appointment in the post of Safety and Health Officer/Senior Safety and Health Officer (Contract) at the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (FAREI).
Appointment to the post will be on contract basis for a period of one year.
I. AGE LIMIT
Candidates unless already employed in the public service or in parastatal organisations should not have reached their 40th birthday by the closing date for submission of applications
II. QUALIFICATIONS
A. A Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety from a recognised institution or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the Board.
B. Candidates should –
(i) reckon practical experience in matters pertaining to safety and health in agriculture;
(ii) possess good communication, interpersonal and organising skills; and
(iii) be computer literate.
Candidates should produce written evidence of experience/knowledge claimed.
III. SALARY
Salary: Rs21,850 (a month)
IV. LIST OF DUTIES
1. To be responsible for the formulation and administration of safety, health and welfare policies at the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute.
2. To deliver training, tender advice and provide information to all employees.
3. To advise management on all matters related to his duties under the Occupational Safety, Health and Welfare Act and related legislations, and ensure that all other provisions are complied with.
4. To carry out regularly, a risk assessment of all the work operations, and to formulate and implement appropriate measures to obviate any risk to the safety and health of any employee.
5. To carry out investigations into complaints made by employees, trade union officials and employees and report thereon.
6. To liaise with other institutions and individuals on all matters related to the safety and health of employees.
7. To perform all legal duties devolving upon him.
8. To investigate occupational accidents and dangerous occurences, analyse the collected information and develop, implement and monitor preventive measures.
9. To act as Secretary to Committees concerning safety and health matters.
10. To use ICT in the performance of his duties.
11. To perform such other duties directly related to the main duties listed above or related to the delivery of the output and results expected from the Safety and Health Officer/Senior Safety and Health Officer in the roles ascribed to him.
V. MODE OF APPLICATION
Qualified candidates are kindly requested to call during working hours at the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute, Head Office, Reduit to collect the application form or to download the application form from the website of FAREI (farei.mu).
Instructions to candidates are:
1. Only application made on the prescribed form will be accepted.
2. Incomplete, inadequate or inaccurate filling of the form will lead to disqualification and elimination of the candidate.
3. Applicant should possess all certificates/qualifications at time of application.
4. Copy of certificates and Identity Card must be attached to the application form.
5. Documentary evidence will have to be submitted for experience claimed & should be attached at the time of application.
6. The onus for the submission of equivalence of qualification (if applicable) from the relevant authorities (Tertiary Education Commission or Mauritius Qualifications Authority) rests on the candidates. Applications will not be considered failing the non-submission of Equivalence Certificate, as appropriate, by the closing date.
7. The post applied for should be clearly marked on the top left-hand corner of the envelope.
8. Application received after closing date will not be accepted.

VI. CLOSING DATE
The duly completed application form should reach the Chief Executive Officer, FAREI, Head Office, Reduit not later than 3.00 p.m. on Thursday 23 December 2021.
