The potato research agenda of the FAREI gives priority to breeding programmes which are supplemented with introduction and evaluation of elite germplasm for selection of varieties potentially adapted to local conditions.
Vigora is a potato variety developed locally from a breeding programme led jointly by the Food & Agricultural Research & Extension Institute (FAREI) and the Mauritius Sugar Industry Research Institute (MSIRI).
Potato season 2020 started amid total lockdown and was undoubtedly set off for a rather gloomy prospect. Thanks to resilience of the planters who, in spite of strict restrictions on movement imposed by the sanitary curfew, they nonetheless stood up the challenges.
