“Jardin Bio” at FAREI Wooton Crop Research Station

The SICOM Group has funded three “Jardin Bio’’ projects in collaboration with the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (FAREI) so as to promote bio farming initiatives for a sustainable production in Mauritius.

  • The project established at the Farmers Training School in Wooton has the following objectives:
    To demonstrate various organic farming practices
  • To be use as a practical training space for participants of the Farmers Training Centre
  • To serve as a model for farmers transitioning to organic agriculture

The model includes:

  • recycling of waste through traditional aerobic composting and vermicomposting
  • a nursery for seedlings production
  • different production systems showcasing mixed cropping, companion planting, mulching, banana circles and service plants
  • a rainwater harvesting system for water management

The Jardin Bio was inaugurated by the CEO of FAREI Dr. M. Madhou and the CEO of SICOM Group Mrs. N Ramdewar on Tuesday, 21 July 2026.

The next steps of the project is to include the Four Sisters system and the Keyhole Garden in the Jardin Bio.
