Post of: 

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Applications are invited from qualified candidates who wish to be considered for appointment in the post of Business Development Manager at the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (FAREI).
Appointment to the post will be initially on a temporary basis for a period of six months. Subject to satisfactory service, candidates may be offered substantive appointment.

I. QUALIFICATIONS
A. By selection from among officers in the grades of Senior Extension Officer (Personal) and Research Scientist/Senior Research Scientist and Extension
Officer/Senior Extension Officer and Business Development Officer at the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute who reckon four years’ service in a substantive capacity in the grade or an aggregate of four years’ service in their grades.
B. Candidates should
 (i) possess good interpersonal and communication skills;
 (ii) possess sound managerial capabilities and strong results orientation;
 (iii) possess the ability to work in multidisciplinary team;
 (iv) possess the ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines;
 (v) be computer literate.

II. SALARY
The temporary appointment will carry flat salary at the rate of Rs 49,250 a month.
The permanent and pensionable post carries salary in scale:
Rs 49,250 x 1650 – 54200 x 1700 – 64,400 x 1800 – 69800 x 2000 – 75,800 x 2150 – 80,100 (FAREI 45)

III. LIST OF DUTIES:

1. To manage the Business Development Unit and ensure its strategic and pivotal role in agricultural market research and agribusiness development activities.
2. To participate and contribute in the preparation of business programmes in line with the policy of the organisation.
3. To supervise development of business plans in connection with agricultural projects and schemes to meet the objectives of the organisation.
4. To ensure availability of up to date information on local markets outlets, stakeholders involved in agribusiness activities, market requirements and industry trends.
5. To implement, monitor and evaluate agricultural schemes under the mandate of FAREI.
6. To capture new ventures in agricultural production and agribusiness activities and keep research and extension staff abreast of emerging opportunities.
7. To maintain ongoing relationship with sponsors in local and international bodies and to promote FAREI through corporate branding.
8. To be responsible for value chain development across FAREI and that of agricultural production by stakeholders.
9. To keep abreast of work of relevance to FAREI at regional and international level.
10. To prepare visitors’ programmes and assist in the organisation of seminars and conferences.
11. To gather and compile information for dissemination among stakeholders.
12. To implement the Performance Management System (PMS) in the Division.
13. To use of ICT in the performance of his duties.
14. To perform such other duties directly related to the main duties listed above or related to the delivery of the output and results expected from the Business Development Manager in the roles ascribed to him.

IV. MODE OF APPLICATION

Instructions to candidates:
1. Only application made on the prescribed form will be accepted.
2. Incomplete, inadequate or inaccurate filling of the form will lead to disqualification and elimination of the candidate.
3. Applicant should possess all certificates/qualifications at time of application.
4. Copy of certificates and Identity Card must be attached to the application form.
5. Evidence will have to be submitted for experience claimed.
6. The onus for the submission of equivalence of qualification (if applicable) from the relevant authorities (Higher Education Commission or Mauritius Qualifications Authority) rests on the candidates. Applications will not be considered failing the non-submission of Equivalence Certificate, as appropriate, by the closing date.
7. The post applied for should be clearly marked on the top left-hand corner of the envelope.
8. Application received after closing date will not be accepted.
