Post of Agricultural Engineer/Senior Agricultural Engineer

Applications are invited from qualified candidates who wish to be considered for appointment at the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (FAREI) for the post of Agricultural Engineer/Senior Agricultural Engineer
Appointment to the post will be initially on a temporary basis for a period of one year. Subject to satisfactory service, candidates may be offered substantive appointment.

Candidates who submitted an application for the post of Agricultural Engineer/Senior Agricultural Engineer, advertised on 05 November 2022, need not resubmit a fresh application.

I. AGE LIMIT
Candidates unless already employed in the public service or in parastatal organisations should not have reached their 45th birthday by the closing date for the submission of applications.

II. QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should –
(i) be registered as Professional Engineers of Mauritius in the field of Agricultural or Mechanical Engineering with the Council of Registered Professional Engineers of Mauritius under Section 13 of the Registered Professional Engineers Council Act No.49 of 1965, as subsequently amended;
(ii) reckon at least two years’ experience in Agricultural or Mechanical Engineering.
(iii) keep abreast of technological advances in respective disciplines/areas of responsibility; and
(iv) be computer literate.
Candidates should produce written evidence of experience/knowledge claimed.

III. SALARY
The temporary appointment will carry flat salary at the rate of Rs33,175 a month. The permanent and pensionable post carries salary in scale:
Rs 33,175 x 825 – 35,650 x 900 – 37,450 x 950 – 42,200 x 1,300 – 46,100 x 1,575 – 49,250 x 1650 -54,200 x 1700 – 64,400 x 1800 -69,800 (FAREI 42).

IV. LIST OF DUTIES
1. To identify problems and constraints faced by the farming community relating to Agricultural Engineering.
2. To assist in the preparation of research programmes and project proposals.
3. To prepare work programmes and budget estimates relevant to specific applications.
4. To implement the approved research programme, on station and on-farm.
5. To produce scientific papers, technical and administrative reports, and assist in the preparation of extension messages and advisory publications.
6. To collaborate with other researchers in multidisciplinary research teams, and lead when requested.
7. To train research and technical as well as, non-technical staff.
8. To participate in activities with extension staff.
9. To attend Boards and Committees, as and when required;
11. To use ICT in the performance of his duties.
12. To perform such other duties directly related to the main duties listed above or related to the delivery of the output and results expected from the Agricultural Engineer/Senior Agricultural Engineer in the roles ascribed to him.

Instructions to candidates are:
1. Only application made on the prescribed form will be accepted.
2. Incomplete, inadequate or inaccurate filling of the form will lead to disqualification and elimination of the candidate.
3. Applicant should possess all certificates/qualifications at time of application.
4. Copy of certificates and Identity Card must be attached to the application form.
5. Documentary evidence will have to be submitted for experience claimed & should be attached at the time of application.
6. The onus for the submission of equivalence of qualification (if applicable) from the relevant authorities (Tertiary Education Commission or Mauritius Qualifications Authority) rests on the candidates. Applications will not be considered failing the non-submission of Equivalence Certificate, as appropriate, by the closing date.
7. The post applied for should be clearly marked on the top left-hand corner of the envelope.
8. Application received after closing date will not be accepted.

IV. CLOSING DATE
The duly completed application form should reach the Ag Chief Executive Officer, FAREI, Head Office, Reduit, not later than 3.00 p.m. on 30 December 2022.
