Post of:

(III) IRRIGATION/PUMP OPERATOR (Roster)

Applications are invited from qualified candidates who wish to be considered for appointment at the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (FAREI) for the undermentioned posts:
(I)   OFFICE ATTENDANT/CARETAKER
(II)  LABORATORY ATTENDANT
(III) IRRIGATION/PUMP OPERATOR (Roster)
Appointment to the post will be initially on a temporary basis for a period of six months. Subject to satisfactory service, candidate may be offered substantive appointment.

I. MODE OF APPLICATION
Instructions to candidates are:
1. Only application made on the prescribed form will be accepted.
2. Incomplete, inadequate or inaccurate filling of the form will lead to disqualification and elimination of the candidate.
3. Applicant should possess all certificates/qualifications at time of application.
4. Copy of certificates and Identity Card must be attached to the application form.
5. Documentary evidence will have to be submitted for experience claimed & should be attached at the time of application.
6. The onus for the submission of equivalence of qualification (if applicable) from the relevant authorities (Higher Education Commission or Mauritius Qualifications Authority) rests on the candidates. Applications will not be considered failing the non-submission of Equivalence Certificate, as appropriate, by the closing date.
7. The post applied for should be clearly marked on the top left-hand corner of the envelope.
8. Application received after closing date will not be accepted.

POST OF OFFICE ATTENDANT/CARETAKER – INTERNAL VACANCY


I. QUALIFICATIONS:
By selection from among employees on the permanent and pensionable establishment of the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (FAREI) who –
 (i) reckon at least five years’ service in their respective grades; and
 (ii) show proof of having sat for the Cambridge School Certificate.
 (iii) possess qualities such as reliability and trustworthiness;
 (iv) have a positive attitude towards work and be able to get on well with people; and
 (v) have the ability to communicate in English and French.

II SALARY:
Flat Salary at the rate of Rs 14,725. The permanent and pensionable post carries salary in scale:
Rs 14725 x 250- 15225 x 260- 17825 x 275-18925 x 300-19525 x 325 – 21475 x 375 – 22225 x 400 – 23425 x 525 – 23950 (FAREI 4)

III LIST OF DUTIES:
1. To open and close offices and buildings.
2. To clean premises and to maintain the physical environment at a good standard.
3. To run official errands, including the despatch of correspondence, forms and materials and the distribution of files and documents and faxes.
4. To usher in /guide visitors to the schedule officers and maintain a record of such visits, if so required.
5. To operate a telephone switchboard/PABX console.
6. To operate simple office equipment such as duplicating machines, photocopying machines, simple binding, etc.
7. To answer calls or bells.
8. To collect keys and deposit same from/to Police Station/Police Post.
9. To ensure that all switches/lights are turned off before leaving office every afternoon.
10. To be in attendance at the reception counter of an office at FAREI, as and when required.
11. To assist in the arrangement of furniture and equipment within office premises.
12. To effect postage, payment of bills and bank deposits.
13. To perform such other duties directly related to the main duties listed above or related to the delivery of the output and results expected from the Office Attendant/Caretaker in the roles ascribed to him.

POST OF LABORATORY ATTENDANT – INTERNAL VACANCY


I. QUALIFICATIONS:
By selection from among employees on the permanent and pensionable establishment of the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (FAREI) who –
(i) possess the Cambridge School Certificate with at least a pass in Biology or Chemistry or Physics or passes obtained on one certificate at the General Certificate of Education “Ordinary level” either (i) in five subjects including English Language and Biology or Chemistry or Physics with at least Grade C in any two subjects or (ii) in six subjects including English Language and Biology or Chemistry or Physics with at least Grade C in any one subject or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the Board; and
(ii) reckon at least 2 years’ experience in laboratory work.

NOTE 1
In the absence of qualified employees on the permanent and pensionable establishment of the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute, by selection from among candidates who possess the qualifications at (i) and (ii) above.

Candidates should produce written evidence of experience claimed.

II SALARY:
Flat Salary at the rate of Rs 15,745. The permanent and pensionable post carries salary in scale:
Rs 15745 x 260 – 17825 x 275 – 18925 x 300 – 19525 x 325 – 21475 x 375 – 22225 x 400 – 23425 x 525 – 26050 x 675 – 27400 x 825 – 31525 (FAREI 15)

III LIST OF DUTIES:
1. To be responsible for the general cleanliness of the laboratory, benches, glassware and other apparatus.
2. To assemble apparatus and prepare solutions and sterile culture media for carrying out analysis.
3. To collect specimens whenever directed.
4. To assist in post-mortem examination of animals and the disposal of carcasses and animal wastes.
5. To keep a register of chemicals, specimens, glassware and other apparatus.
6. To keep balances and other apparatus used in the laboratory in working order.
7. To keep broken apparatus in safe custody for audit or stock verification purposes.
8. To assist in opening, unpacking, repacking and placing in stores laboratory packages containing laboratory consumables and equipment.
9. To perform such other duties directly related to the main duties listed above or related to the delivery of the output and results expected from the Laboratory Attendant in the roles ascribed to him.

POST OF IRRIGATION/PUMP OPERATOR (ROSTER) – INTERNAL VACANCY


I. QUALIFICATIONS:
By selection, from among General Workers on the permanent and pensionable establishment of the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (FAREI) who reckon at least four years’ proven experience in the operation and care of irrigation and pumping equipment.

II SALARY:
Flat Salary at the rate of Rs 14,975. The permanent and pensionable post carries salary in scale:
Rs 14975 x 250 – 15225 x 260 – 17825 x 275 – 18925 x 300 – 19525 x 325 – 21475 x 375 – 22225 x 400 – 23425 x 525 – 24475 (FAREI 5)

III LIST OF DUTIES:
1. To operate pumping machines.
2. To control water flowing to reservoirs and ensure a regular water supply.
3. To be responsible for:
 (i) the connection of irrigation pipes to source of water;
 (ii) the installation of pipes and sprinklers within fields to be irrigated;
 (iii) the cleaning and simple maintenance of sprinklers and of the engine including priming and keeping up fuel lines;
 (iv) ensuring that water flow is of good quality;
 (v) ensuring the proper servicing, maintenance and repair of water pumps;
 (vi) the moving of irrigation equipment;
 (vii) the collection and proper storage of pipes and sprinklers and pumping equipment.
 (viii) assisting in water conservation by checking all pipes conditions and installations and hence ensure the water wastage is minimized; and
 (ix) ensuring the cleanliness of the Pumping Station.
4. To assist the mechanics when the engine under his charge is under repair.
5. To keep records such as hours run, servicing and maintenance records.
6. To perform such other duties directly related to the main duties listed above or related to the delivery of the output and results expected from the Irrigation/Pump Operator (Roster) in the roles ascribed to him.
