The World Pulse Day is celebrated to raise awareness of the importance of Pulses in contributing to sustainable food production. Pulses are an important part of global food production, being affordable, easy to store, nutritious, and good for the environment. The day also seeks to maintain the momentum gained during FAO’s announcement of 2016 as the International Year of Pulses. Pulses are the edible seeds of leguminous plants cultivated for both food and feed. Celebrating World Pulses Day helps to facilitate the observance of the day and support the production and consumption of pulses as part of healthy diets.
