Oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus spp.) are edible, nutritious and mildly flavoured mushrooms with several health benefits like cholesterol reduction, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. The Grey Brown Oyster mushroom (Pleurotus pulmonarius) also known as Phoenix Mushroom, grows well in warm climates and produces clusters of medium to large grey mushroom with short stem. The caps are relatively flat and fleshy. A fruiting bag of 0.75 kg has an average yield of 170-180 g during the commercial production cycle of 2 months but can yield up to 445g during a potential 6 months’ production cycle.

Shelf Life: Depending on the type of pack used, grey brown oyster mushroom can be kept for 5 to 13 days at 4-5 °C. Optimal storage is achieved in 30 – micron LDPE (Low-density polyethylene) and clip on packs.
